Bumper Car Pavilion - Glen Echo Park
On February 12th, 2022 The Walt Whitman Crew team, alumni, parents and friends will row 1 million meters on ERGs to raise money for the Walt Whitman Crew. That is like rowing from Washington DC to Chicago! The event will take place at the Glen Echo Park Bumper Pavillion. Individuals can also participate virtually if out of town.
Whitman Crew Athletes will have an individual goal of raising $300 (minimum). We will be using the Mightcause Fundraising Platform (formally Razoo) where athletes can set up a personal fundraising page ( a fundraising template is provided) and fundraise using email, peer-to-peer social media fundraising or text-to-give. Off-line donations (checks payable to Walt Whitman Crew Boosters) can also be accepted.
The event will be held live at the Bumper Car Pavilion on Saturday February 12th from 8 am - 2 pm where we will set up drinks, food, music and 25 ERGs. Athletes will sign-up for one of the 3 waves (2 hour time slots) for that day. We anticipate that individual Whitman crew athletes will row 16,000 to 20,000 meters each. Athletes should ask their coaches for guidance on setting an appropriate goal. Alumni, parents and friends can also participate by helping us ERG to meet the one million meter goal and/or by helping us to fundraise. There is a separate information sheet available for alumni, parents and friends. Alumni, parents and friends who would like to participate should contact Marianne Sullivan at email@example.com.
Proceeds from the ERG-A-THON will help offset the costs of running the Walt Whitman Crew Program. Additionally, individual donations for the ERG-A-THON at the $100 and above level (up to a total of $10,000) will be matched 1:1 to support Baltimore Community Rowing/ Reach High Rowing program which provides scholarship support to athletes from under-resourced communities in the Baltimore metro area.
