Varsity Rowing Year

Fall Rowing
Whitman Crew runs its own Fall rowing program after school, similar to Spring season.

Winter Conditioning
Winter Conditioning begins in late November and runs through late February, weather permitting. As soon as the boats can get back on the water winter training concludes and Spring Racing season begins. Winter training is important, as it offers each rower the opportunity to improve their speed, agility and mental toughness. With a large number of ergs at the team's disposal, all sessions are held on-site at Whitman.

Those who commit, put in the work and stayed focused see those benefits come to life on the water in the Spring.

Spring Break Training
The Varsity Team travels locally for the week of Spring Break and rows twice a day. There is an additional cost associated with this training to cover transportation, meals and housing for that week. It is a week that the team looks forward to, and although the location varies, it is a critical component of a fast, and consistent performance during the Spring Racing Season.

Spring Racing Season
As challenging as being indoors all winter can be, the absolute elation of being back of the Potomac in late February or early March in most years cannot be put into words. All the hours on the erg give way to the freedom of the water. Along with that freedom comes a rigorous training and regatta schedule that does not let up. As a varsity Athlete it's important you are aware of these demands and plan your time and academics/college-prep wisely.

Summer Rowing
Many Whitman Varsity Men & Women alike row for Thompson Boat Center Racing in the Summer when there is no formal program offered by Whitman Crew. The conditioning and form benefits that our athletes achieve with this continuity of participation is important for their development in the sport.

Work, Row, Win!

As a Varsity Rower you have a great responsibility to your team, your coach and yourself to do what is necessary to be crew mate that reflects the commitment and ideals at the core of the Whitman Crew philosophy.

You will work hard, but the reward will come in the lifelong friendships you make, the strength you gain and ultimately the speed you and your crew mates exhibit on the water, and even on the erg.

The team is built on the attitude, dedication and comradery that our Varsity Rowers exhibit. That commitment sets the tone for a season, and when it is coupled with sincere effort and hard work the results speak for themselves.

Whitman Crew is getting faster each and every year, but so is the competition. Now is the time to focus on what you can do to make Whitman Crew great on and off the water.
