Coach Josh Miles began rowing in 1996 in Long Beach, California for Long Beach Junior Crew. After high school he attended Orange Coast Community College; while there he stroked the freshmen eight to third place finishes at the San Diego Crew Classic, Opening Day and the Pac-10 Championships, always just out of reach of National powerhouses University of Washington and University of California. After Orange Coast, Coach Miles made the journey to the east coast to row for Rutgers University Lightweights. While at Rutgers he placed 4th in the JV 8 in 2001 and was selected for the IRA team. At IRA’s he placed 6th in the nation in the pair. He graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in English and received his M.A. in Elementary Education in 2005. He currently teaches 5th and 6th grade Math and Science in Alexandria, Va. at Cameron Elementary (a school with goats, chickens and rabbits).
Coach Miles enters his second year with Whitman crew as the men’s frosh coach. Last year he assisted coach Assenza with the varsity and junior varsity squads. He looks forward to helping Coach Assenza increase the speed of the team.
