FOR PARENTS

Parent Volunteer Requirement

Every active Athlete's family must volunteer a minimum of 10 hours (per athlete) throughout the course of the year. We are an entirely volunteer-driven operation, and active parent participation is essential to our athletes' and Club's success.

Volunteer opportunities are not limited to regatta day support (although those are crucial to our athletes' ability to do what they train for all year long -- race in regattas!).

Your volunteer hours might involve participation as a distribution person for our Annual Wreath, Garland and Candle sale, helping coordinate the end of the year banquet, hosting athlete and parent social events, managing team uniforms and gear stores, posting to social media, taking event photos, fundraising -- and more. Opportunities are many, and varied.

We send out volunteer opportunities via email, using SignUpGenius.

To be a volunteer you simply need a can-do attitude, a willingness to figure things out and access to the internet so you can sign up for an opportunity that best suits your talents and time schedule.

Thank you in advance for your time, talents and support.

ESSENTIAL PARENT HOW-TO'S: SportsEngine and Communications

Here is your quick start guide to creating an account and using the SportsEngine platform as an athlete or parent:  New to SportsEngine?

ACCOUNT = PARENT
PROFILE = ATHLETE(S)

IT'S CONFUSING, BUT..... When creating a SportsEngine account to register your student-athlete, you still create the ACCOUNT in your name, with your own information.

Once you’ve registered your athlete, their information will be added as a PROFILE of your account (look for athlete Profiles in the Household section of your Account).

Families need to manage their SportsEngine accounts to ensure they get the most out of their Whitman Crew experience during each sporting season. With accounts properly configured, athletes and their families will receive communications according to their preferences and be able to complete registrations more efficiently.

SportsEngine has created a Guide for Parents and Athletes (below) that will help with frequently asked questions about using SportsEngine from a desktop and via the mobile app (please note, Whitman Crew does not use SportsEngine for scheduling or rsvps to practices. Those communications happen directly between coaches and athletes).

GETTING EMAILS FROM WHITMAN CREW

Receiving Copies of Messages

Do you need a second parent, other family member or nanny to get messages from Whitman Crew? Add a second email address to forward all communications.

(PLEASE NOTE: adding a person as a second email does not allow them to participate in messaging through the mobile app. SEE: Adding a Guardian, in the discussion of the Mobile App).

Adding a Mobile Phone

Once you've created your account, add your mobile phone so you can receive text message notifications whenever you get an email from Whitman Crew.

Enabling Text Messaging

Now that you have your mobile phone on your account, make sure you enable text messaging and any other notifications.

USING THE SportsEngine MOBILE APP

Sending a Message via Mobile App

Do you need to send a question to your coach or another parent? Follow these instructions on how to send messages using the mobile app.

Adding a Second Parent as a 'Guardian' to Send Messages Through the Mobile App

In many instances, more than one parent or guardian needs to be in the loop with a child's sports life. Using the mobile app, you can add 'Guardians' to an account. Guardians can 1) Send and receive messages to coaches and team members 2) participate in team chat.
