Whitman Crew came on strong at the WMIRA Championships this past weekend at Thompson Boat Center. In morning heats the Women's Novice 4, and Men's Freshman 8 both advanced to the finals coming in 2nd in their respective heats. As did the Men's 1V 8, with a 1st place finish in their heat. The Men's Novice 8 finished their heat in 3rd, with a strong race. The Women's Varsity 4 and Men's Varsity 4 both moved onto the petite finals, coming in 3rd in their heats.

After a short lunch break the Women's Freshman 8 took 1st in their final in decisive fashion winning gold. The Women's 1st Varsity 8 also took home the gold with a strong 1st place win. As racing continued the Women's 2nd Varsity 8 took 2nd and the silver, as did the Novice Women's 4. The Women's 2nd Varsity 4 came in 3rd in their petite final. All of these strong showings, collectively led to the Whitman Women taking home the Overall Points Trophy in grand fashion.

On the Men's side the Men's 1st Varsity 8 took 2nd and silver, losing by only one second to their nearest competitor. Men's 2nd Varsity 8 finished 2nd in their final with silver too. The Men's Freshman 8 finished 4th in their final, and the Men's Varsity 4 finished 2nd in their petite final. 

The 2017 WMIRA Championships will serve as a catalyst for speed as a number of boats from Whitman leave for Philadelphia to compete in the Stotesbury Cup this coming weekend. Row on, row strong!
