NEW
ROWERS - SAFETY
Updated: September 14, 2006
Concerned about
safety on the water? So are we. Rowing is a safe sport but, as with
any physical activity, accidents can happen. The sport does not
lend itself to wearing a life jacket while rowing but our coaches
carry life jackets in their launches at all times. In addition,
in the highly unlikely event that a boat was to swamp, the boat
itself serves as an emergency flotation device.

In a test carried
out in conjunction with the DC Harbor Patrol, TC Williams Crew in
Alexandria VA purposefully swamped a shell to demonstrate how well
a racing shell and oars can perform in a swamping situation.
