WHITMAN CREW BOOSTERS FUNDRAISING
Updated: August 8, 2010

Capital Campaign - Spring 2010 (CLOSED)

For a current list of 2010 Capital Campaign contributors (as of 3/7/10), please click here.

The Whitman Crew Capital Campaign is now accepting your tax-deductible contributions! The Capital Campaign is an essential part of our annual budget, and it is not optional. All families who are financially able to contribute are required to contribute $400 per rower. But the good news is that your contribution is tax deductible.

If you are the parents of a freshman rower, you have come to appreciate how hard your rower has been working and how much crew has come to mean to them. That's why Whitman Crew is the school's largest athletic program, as well as Maryland's outstanding high school crew program.

Whitman Crew is financed entirely by the crew families. Our program receives NO funds from the school system. We buy our own boats, trailers and ergs, we pay our own coaches, and we pay for our own bus transportation, insurance and a hundred other things. The fees you pay for the fall and spring seasons fund only half of the program's total expenses. The remainder comes from a combination of rower-led fundraising, our silent auction, and this, our annual Capital Campaign.

Our goal this year is to raise at least $35,000, so that we can fund the purchase of a new eight (eight-person boat, for the novice parents) and new oars. But the equipment is only part of the story. The real payback from Whitman Crew is the strength of character, physical fitness and academic discipline you see in our rowers.

We also want to show our appreciation to the many families that contribute more than the required minimum:

* Any family that contributes at least $750 (or at least $1,000, for families with more than one rower) will have their names affixed to a new set of oars.

* Any family that contributes at least $1,000 will name a seat in the new eight that Whitman Crew is adding to its fleet and also have their names prominently displayed on an engraved plague that will be affixed to the inside of each hull.

* And the first family that contributes at least $5,000 will be able to name the new eight and will have their name prominently affixed to the inside of each hull.

The deadline for contributions to be recognized on the boat plaques or oars will be February 15, 2010.

You may be asking yourself, "What if I contribute and then find that my child has lost interest in crew before the spring season?" Fear not. Any family whose rower is not participating in crew, for any reason, at the time the spring rosters are announced, will receive a full refund of their capital campaign contribution.

We also recognize that some families may not be financially able to contribute. If that is the case, please contact Bennett Ross to explain your situation. You can reach Bennett via e-mail (bross@wileyrein.com) or at the office (202-719-7424) or at home (301-320-4319).

Please take a minute to write a check payable to WALT WHITMAN CREW BOOSTERS, and mail it to Bennett Ross, 7719 Tomlinson Avenue, Cabin John MD 20818.
